Dr. Zvi Galil

Our first keynote speaker will pick up the topic of technology and education: Dr. Zvi Galil – The John P. Jr. Dean of Computing at Georgia Tech will discuss how he grew the best Computer Science programme in the US from 300 to over 1,200 students around the world, who pay just a fraction of the price for the best education in the world!

Zvi Galil is the John P. Imlay Jr. Dean of Computing at Georgia Tech. He has been successfully leading the institute since 2010 by the motto ‘’Accessibility through Affordability and Technology’’. Galil has been partnering with AT&T and Sebastian Thrun from Udacity to initiate new directions for Georgia Tech, which lead to one of his biggest achievements, the implementation of a Masters Degree program taught entirely as a MOOC. These courses are usually online undergraduate courses offered for free with no credit benefits. However Galil’s team at Georgia Tech designed a program that enables students to earn a Masters degree in computer science for about 7.000$ – that’s 3 times less expensive than studying on campus.

So far there’s been positive feedback by students and the industry. Galil sets great importance by student recruitment and a diverse student body and is proud to have one of the highest percentage of female faculty among Top 25 computing programs, as well as adult learners.

Now other universities like the University of Illinois and MIT are following in Georgia Tech’s innovative footsteps.
